Playing Texas Holdem
Planning on playing Texas Holdem?
If you plan on playing Online Texas Holdem poker or live poker you are going to have to have passion. You are going to have to want to compete hard and smart. The only way to do this is to develop a love for the game. I know when I first started playing poker many years ago I was fascinated by the game. I was enjoying the roller coaster ride going up and the emotional rides back down again when the bad beats came my way. There is no way to get around it. Poker is a game of ups and downs. Some ups last longer than other just as some downs do the same. But through it all you will never last without developing a love for the game.
Be a Competitor
One thing you will find among poker players is that we are all extremely competitive. Many of us are former athletes or our work involves competition with an opposing organization. In any event your competitive juices should be flowing when you think about how you are going to dissect your opponents each time you sit down at the table. You have to want to win and want it badly. This is particularly true when buying into a poker tournament. In a poker tournament there can only be one winner and that winner is the person that gets the most money for their bankroll when it is all said and done. That is a tremendous incentive for anyone that enters a tournament. Who wouldn’t want to win a few thousand bucks at their local casino? There are also a number of smaller tours that take place regularly with economical buy-ins for amateurs.
You will find doctors, lawyers, garbage men, engineers, musicians and all kinds of people in cash games and poker tournaments. The one theme that they have in common is that they all want to win! You should too!
Learn About the Game
When I say, “Learn about the game” I don’t necessarily mean the rules of play. When I say this I mean that you should be picking up any and all pieces of information you feel will help you improve your poker game. This can include conversations with your poker buddies to trade hands and hand histories and analyze where each of you believe you can play better. It can mean watching and analyzing professional poker players to see why a move was successful against one player but not so much against another. It can mean watching video of cash games to see where the weakness lies at that particular table or identify tells on the players.
